Design specifications
The IDCON product series include terminal blocks based on the insulation displacement technology.
![]()
This technology provides an electrical connection by cutting the insulation of a conductor inside the terminal block with a knife contact. It allows direct termination of solid or multi-wire copper conductors without preparation. Round solid wires have to be bare or tin plated (tin or tin-lead) or silver plated. Stranded wires consist of tin plated (tin or tin-lead) or silver plated single wires. Exterior diameter of the insulation max. 1.8 mm.
The insulation material has to be PVC or another material with characteristics that harmonize with the cut and clamp action. That means complete displacement of the insulation material by the inner knife flanks should be possible without damaging the conductor. In addition, the insulation sleeve of stranded conductors has to be able to keep the single wires in place so that these are not displaced during the termination process.
